Invite Jesus Now!
John 2:1-2 (NKJV)
On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding.
Etymologically, Cana means a place of reed. Reed is a tall grass; and it is used for roofing. Now, this was the most significant thing about Cana, reed - a grass. That is pretty mundane, I mean a place is always known for the most significant thing it has. For example, when you think of Paris, you remember the Eiffel tower. Cana wasn't known for gold or silver or bronze or other lovely things, it was known for a grass called Reed. That was how mediocre and uninteresting the place was.
To make matters worse, Cana was in Galilee. The bible referred to it as "Cana of Galilee". Etymologically, Galilee was a place of death, a region of darkness. Not only did Cana have nothing to write home about, it was located in a 'cemetery': double trouble, as it were. Sometimes, just when you think a situation can't get any worse, something else happens to make it worse. Just when you think you are at the lowest ebb and it can't get worse, it actually gets worse. Maybe you are like Shedrach, Meshach and Abednego, you are going to be thrown into the fire and you think that's the worst. Before you know it, the fire is heated a whooping 7 times and the first condition becomes like child's play. But you know what?, you can still have a 'wedding'!
Everything changed for Cana when Jesus was invited. Despite the terrible situation they were in, on the third day, they had a wedding. Where there is a wedding, there is celebration. You may be in a situation akin to Cana of Galilee, I have got news for you, you can still have a celebration. Invite Jesus now! Don't wait another second. No situation is beyond redemption. With Jesus, you can have your celebration; and you will not just be a witness, you will be the celebrant!
Because Jesus showed up, the place of reed became the place of the first miracle of Jesus. You can experience a complete turn around; invite Jesus now. God specializes in transforming lives and making ordinary people great. He does extraordinary things with ordinary people, He does amazing things with people who have been rejected. With Jephthah, the stone the builders rejected became the chief corner stone. Even a place that was written off like Nazareth ("can anything good come out of Nazareth?" John 1:46) became associated with the greatest person that has ever and will ever live. Like the saying goes, "there is nothing in a butterfly that shows it came from a maggot". "Despise not the days of little beginning" Zech 4:10; "for though your beginning be small, your end shall greatly increase" Job 8:7.
The people at the wedding drank the sweetest wine they had ever tasted because Jesus was invited. You can experience a better life. All you need is Jesus. Invite Him now and experience sweetness.
